Woodland Presbyterian Church

Stewardship

Pledge Sunday is November 12th, 2023.

“Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give.  That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting.  God loves it when the giver delights in the giving. God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done.”
(2 Corinthians 9:6-8, The Message)

I was privileged to be in Boy Scouts, and I still remember the motto of a Boy Scout: Be Prepared.  That motto has certainly been my mantra ever since.  Unfortunately, I have found the paralyzing aspects of always trying to be prepared by thinking I couldn’t do “anything” unless I was prepared for the worst.  So very rarely did I ever step “out of the boat” so to speak.  I guess I have lived in fear that I won’t have enough.  Do you ever live in that way?

Paul has asked the Corinthians to help give money to the Jerusalem church, which was in dire straits.  Church in Jerusalem had given birth to church in Corinth, and now the “child” church had an opportunity to help the “mother” church.  No doubt Paul was asking the Corinthians to do an incredible thing.  He doesn’t tell them to give 10%; he doesn’t tell them what the average Christian should give.  He just asks them to give cheerfully.  Do we know what it means to give cheerfully?  It means we give and STOP WORRYING!  It means we do NOT give in fear—we give in love.

Friends, I believe there is much that our Lord is calling us to do.  But I’m pretty sure he wants us to do “it” cheerfully, gladly and lovingly.  I hope you will join me in prayerful consideration regarding a pledge for 2024.  Our pledges will help us: to be involved and to participate in community events; to invite the community to WPC events (using ALL kinds of communications); to be invested in developing intentional relationships through small groups.

Please consider making a pledge on November 12.
God has much in store for us in 2024
